Ms. Oona Morton

Mrs. Brittany Harding

As a Thor graduate, I am very proud to be part of the new team here at Thornton Academy. I have reminders all around of how this school changed my education forever. Thor provided me with the necessities to be successful in my post-secondary education and in life. It was an important part of developing my love for learning. Diligence Creates Success!

I have recently graduated the bachelor of education program at Wilfred Laurier University with distinctions. Prior to Laurier, I completed my Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Geography and Environmental Management at University of Waterloo. In addition, I recently received my Hospitality and Tourism Grade 9 -12 certification.

Teaching has taught me patience and empathy.  It has allowed me to use my positive attitude to inspire and mentor kids. By creating a fun and safe environment I have helped student gain confidence and discover their talents.  I find that the more I teach the more I realize that the role of a teacher is a role as a facilitator.  A role that encourages creative thought rather than simply conveying information.   Stimulating the minds of children and helping them learn is a task that constantly requires new ideas and a fresh outlook.  Through teaching I have learned that sometimes the new idea or a fresh outlook will come from the student – you just have to listen.

Both of my parents are teachers.  I have grown up hearing great stories about how my parents have helped kids and had a positive influence on their lives.  It is inspiring. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach students how to become critical thinkers so they can make good decisions for the rest of their lives.
The environment at Thornton Academy is one that I am excited to be a part of.  It is an honour to have the opportunity to help students reach for a bright future, and be an important part in teaching students to love learning.
